New Schwarzenegger Conan Trilogy Planned
Arnold Schwarzenegger has often talked of his commitment to returning to one of his most iconic roles for another Conan the Barbarian Sequel. However it now appears Arnie could be set to make a new trilogy of Conan film’s in quick succession.
Paradox Entertainment currently own the rights for the Conan franchise and their CEO Fredrik Malmberg has made little secret of his desire to cash in quickly on the current popularity for Game of Thrones style fantasy adventure and Schwarzenegger’s (hopefully) resurgent star power.
Speaking recently via an official Schwarzenegger fan site the CEO eagerly admitted:
“We have a great story. Everyone loves it. This is a role that’s perfect for [Arnold] and he’s very involved with the whole Universal team. It’s the best team they have. Arnold has been very instrumental to bringing this together saying, ‘We gotta make a good Conan! I think if we do this right, we can do two more Conan movies right after, I think Game Of Thrones also shows a huge interest in fantasy. I’m psyched about it.”
As for details of the plot, perhaps unsurprisingly the new trilogy will pick up with a much Older Conan returning to his Kingdom, having already been a legendary warrior and king.
“The idea is that this takes place after Conan has been king, but this is the legend of Conan where he has been gone and people say, ‘Do you remember the good ol’ days when Conan was around?’ And now it’s time for him to come back.”
Exactly when filming starts remains to be seen with Schwarzenegger already committed to starting filming Terminator 5 at the start of 2014. Making it unlikely any Conan sequel will start production till at least 2015 or 2016.
