Sherlock and Star Trek star Benedict Cumberbatch is officially set to play Hamlet on stage in London for a three month run in 2015. Cumberbatch will play the iconic lead in the eternal Shakespearean tragedy from August to October next year at the Barbican Theatre. 

Director Lindsey Turner greeted the casting news by describing the 37 year old star as one of the ‘Most gifted and exciting actors of his generation”. Speaking in 2012 Cumberbatch himself said that :

“It’s a role I’ve been interested in for a long time. I don’t know if there is such a thing as a right age to play he part, but 36 or 37 seems expropriate to me”.

Ticket details will be released in May for the 12 week run with expectations on an instant sell out.
