Sam Rockwell May Join Poltergeist Remake
Sam Rockwell is reportedly in talks to join 20th century Fox’s remake of horror classic Poltergeist, potentially joining confirmed lead actress Rosemarie Dewitt on the project.
Directed by Gil Kenan and produced by horror maestro Sam Rami the film will be a self-proclaimed ‘revisionist take’ on the familiar tale of a suburban family being terrorized by evil spirits. Oz The Great and Powerful screenwriter David Lindsay-Abaire is taking responsibility for the new script.
The new film will apparently make its tale more economically topical by having the family move into the ominous and outdated suburban home as a result of financial struggles. Setting up heavy handed parallels between the economic and supernatural troubles plaguing the family, in every review written on the film’s eventual release…
Miles Teller For Fantastic Four Reboot
Miles Teller is rumoured to be first choice to play Mr Fantastic in the Fantastic Four reboot. The young star of Spectacular Now has apparently already met with director Josh Trank to discuss the possible superhero role.
Although Teller has earned positive reviews, at just 26 his age and babyfaced looks might be the one stumbling block in the way of landing the coveted role of elasticated team leader. Traditionally Mr Fantastic has always been a more mature father like figure in the group, particularly given his signature wild streaks of grey hair.
Teller might fit nicely though if director the studio aims for a younger cast to lure even more teenage fans back to the faltering franchise.
Coen Brothers Making Fargo TV Series
The Coen Brothers are officially adapting their Oscar winning 1996 classic Fargo into a 10 part TV series for FX. The series will shoot in Canada, featuring new characters and scenarios, but network boss John Landgarf assures fans it will remain “remarkably true to the film”.
Longtime Coen brothers collaborate Billy Bob-Thornton will take the lead in the series as Lorn Malvo,
“a roothless manipulative man who meets a small town insurance salesman and sets him on a path of destruction”.
The original film won Oscar glory for star Francis McDormand and a best original screenplay honor for Joel and Ethan Coen. Aside from consistently being voted one of the finest pieces modern of American cinema the film also gained notoriety for falsely claiming to be based on a true story, despite being a work of pure fiction.
Explaining the infamously misleading claim in 1998, Joel Coen admitted:
“We thought that if we did something where we told the audience up front was a true story, that they’d allow you to do things they wouldn’t normally allow you to do, if they thought it was fiction.”
The Coen brothers next big screen project will be new film Inside Llewyn Davis, released before they make their small screen debut.
Warner Bros Want Ryan Gosling for Batman
Warner Bros is beginning their hunt for a new Batman in earnest, having apparently assembled a wish list of hunky a-list actors.
Rugged man candy Joe Manganiello, Josh Brolin, Richard Armitage, Matthew Goode and Max Martini are all said to be in Warner’s contemplation. While of course, perpetually brooding superstar Ryan Gosling is also rumoured to be very high on the studios wish list.
As the search for a new caped crusader intensifies it has also been revealed that the new Superman film will apparently avoid re-telling Batman’s overly familiar origin story. Safely assuming that after seven feature films of varying quality, audiences already know who this Batman guys is.
David S. Goyer has already started work on a script ahead of an ambitious release date in 2015.
Universal Plans Another Bourne Sequel
Universal have hired Invictus screenwriter Anthony Peckham to provide a script for the next installment in the ongoing Bourne franchise. Jeremy Remmer will return for a sequel to The Bourne Legacy, although it still looks like Matt Damon won’t be tempted into reprising the titular role of Jason Bourne.
Universal had harbored fairly public hopes that Damon would consider returning, but the star was candidly unimpressed by The Bourne Legacy, presumably leaving it to Remmer’s character Aaron Cross to carry the story forward for at least another film.
It’s also unclear whether or not director Tony Gilroy will remain in charge behind the camera. Gillroy provided the screenplays for the past four films in the series, so it remains to be seen whether the studios move to hire a new screenwriter could be followed by a new director too.
