James Cameron Almost Directed Jurassic Park

Avatar and Titanic Director James Cameron has revealed that he almost directed Jurassic Park instead of Steven Spielberg.

“When I saw the film,I realized that I was not the right person to make the film, [Spielberg] was. Because he made a dinosaur movie for kids, and mine would have been aliens with dinosaurs, and that wouldn’t have been fair. Dinosaurs are for 8-year-olds. We can all enjoy it, too, but kids get dinosaurs and they should not have been excluded from that. His sensibility was right for that film. I’d have gone further, nastier, much nastier.”

It’s unclear just how much nastier you can really go than being eaten alive by a Velociraptor, so probably best that Cameron didn’t give it a go.

Joss Whedon talks Avengers S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series

Joss Whedon is already confirmed to direct The Avengers 2 and busy overseeing all of Marvels next phase of superhero films, but he recently added a S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series to his schedule.

It was initially unclear how the new TV show would integrate into the existing Marvel movie universe and how much if any cross over there would be. Now Joss Whedon has begun explain the focus of the new show.

“It’s new characters. It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent but you don’t want to do a show where you’re constantly going, ‘Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.’ You want them to do their own thing.”

On the subject of what made him want to compliment Marvel’s big screen Avengers universe with the spin-off series Whedon added:

“What does S.H.I.E.L.D. have that the other superheroes don’t? That, to me, is that they’re not superheroes. But they live in that universe. Even though they’re a big organisation, that [lack of powers] makes them underdogs, and that’s interesting to me.”

It’s yet to be confirmed if Whedon will be directing the new series or jut writing and executive producing it. But it will be some time before we see the Avengers sequel as Thor The Dark World, Captain America 2 and Iron Man 3 will all be released before Avengers 2 starts serious production.

Brad Pitt Producing IBM and the Holocaust Movie

Brad Pitt is producing a film version of Edwin Black’s bestselling non-fiction book IBM and the Holocaust. The book alleges that from 1933 the multi-national technology and consulting corporation headquartered in New York was instrumental in helping the Third Reich efficiently process census information to identify Jewish people, ultimately facilitating the holocaust.

HBO had previously planned a TV movie adaptation but the project has now moved on and looks set to perhaps use Pitt’s leading man star power to push itself onto the big screen.

IBM is the second largest US firm with nearly half a million employees and one of the world’s best known and respect global brands. It remains to be seen how the hard-hitting film might impact them particularly internationally and whether they would make any kind of response to the production when it does arrive in cinemas.

News of Brad Pitt’s involvement must be causing the company considerable concern, especially if they’ve seen Inglorious Bastereds. Turn’s out Brad Pitt really does love collecting Nazi Scalps, and he wants some more…

Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim Now in 3D

Genius Director Guillermo Del Toro expressed strong doubts at the San Diego Comic Con about converting his must anticipated giant monster movie Pacific Rim into 3D. However it seems that studio Warner Bros does not share those concerns and is now planning to convert the film to 3D in post-production ahead of it summer release next year.

Previous efforts to convert 2D blockbusters into 3D after the fact, such as Clash of The Titans, have been derided by fan and critics but still succeeded in adding a huge boost to box office hauls thanks to the convenient increase in ticket prices.

Del Toro’s much anticipated new sci-fi effort stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, and Rinko Kikuchi as pilots of giant robots defending the earth from an onslaught of colossal alien monsters.

The decision to convert the film to 3D in-spite of Del Toro’s public scepticism and the notorious failures of recent similar efforts hopefully won’t dampen considerable fan enthusiasm for the project.

Roland Emmerich talks Idependence Day Sequels

Independence Day producer & co-writer Dean Devlin has recently spoken about pans for the long rumored sequel to the alien invasion blockbuster, now Director Roland Emmerich has revealed more details of his potential plans to turn the franchise into a trilogy.

Although Emmerich admits that difficult negotiations with 20th century Fox are still on-going, with a deal proving a “tough battle between the studios and the actors”, if they do manage to finally hammer things out it would see a pair of sequels released, most likely in 3D.

Disaster movie specialist Emmerich is an obvious fan of CGI, but he has previously declared himself to be a ‘3D Skeptic’. Nevertheless it seems the studio has already persuaded him that adding a few hundred million to the potential box office isn’t such a bad thing and might just help them lure back Will Smith.

Emmerich also revealed a potential title for both new films with the new 3D sequels being called ID Forever Parts 1 & 2.
